Trivium LIVE at the House of Blues Chicago- 10/21/18

The Chicago House of Blues is one of the most beautiful venues in Chicago. It was the perfect venue to host the Sin and the Sentence tour with a killer tour package attached. This SOLD OUT show was packed, sweaty, and intimate.

Opening up the night of chaos was Light The Torch! Formally known as Devil You Know. Light the Torch is made up of 4 talented musicians. Howard Jones (formally Killswitch Engage), Ryan Wombacher (formally Bleeding Through), Francesco Artusato (formally All Shall Perish) and last but not least, the backbone of it all, drummer Mike Sciulara (formally Extinction A.D.).

The crowd roared as Howard energetically took the stage as the rest followed. The energy was insane between each band member as they got the crowd warmed up for the rest of the night. The talent that makes up this band is astonishing. Bass player Ryan Wombacher didn’t just wow the crowd by slapping the bass, but also his talented vocals. Light The Torch shows such passion on stage and is definitely an act to catch live.

Next to stun the crowd was the almighty Avatar. Hailing all the way from Sweden, Avatar goes into each show to make themselves remembered. Avatar does just that each and every show. Avatar opened up their set fast and heavy with their song “Murderer” off their 2014 album “Hail The Apocalypse.” Avatar is phenomenal at giving the crowd a show, and making it special for everyone. From holding the hand of a young kid there to see their show, to the in sync head banging and wind milling, to even just eye contact.

Avatar mentioned they are testing their abilities and making it a point to perform a new setlist each and every night. Sunday night in Chicago they played songs like “Smells Like A Freak Show,” “Bloody Angel,” “Tsar Bomba” and more. Avatar of course did a prodigious job at getting the crowd eager for the headliner of the night. This Swedish band is one you can not miss out on!

Last but not least, the reason why we are all here, the almighty Trivium! As soon as the lights dropped, and the sound track of “Run To The Hills” by Iron Maiden played, the crowd was yelling and chanting Trivium over and over. Trivium came out on stage with exuberance performing their song “Betrayer” off their 2017 album “The Sin And the Sentence.” Instantly Trivium was giving the crowd a show. From the powerhouse vocals from vocalist Matt Heafy and even guitarist Corey Beaulieu, to bassist Paolo Gregoletto yelling the lyrics and interacting with the crowd, to drummer Alex Bent being the backbone of it all, there was an immense amount of energy each and every direction you looked.

Trivium is touring for their 2017 album “The Sin and the Sentence” but that didn’t stop them from giving the old time Trivium fans songs they wanted to hear. Playing songs from albums like “Ascendancy” from 2005, “Shogun” from 2008, “Vengeance Falls” from 2013 and more. As if seeing Trivium alone wasn’t appreciable enough, they had special guest Jarod Dines with them to join them on a few songs. Youtuber Jarod Dines came on stage shredding songs like “Into the Mouth of Hell We March,” “The Wretchedness Inside,” “Pull Harder On the Strings of Your Martyr,” and even the song “In Waves” which was also joined by Light The Torch vocalist Howard Jones!

Trivium is pulling out all the stops to make this a great tour across world tour. Each and every band gave a phenomenal performance on this fine Sunday night. The Sin and The Sentence tour is selling out shows across the country, and there is only about a week left of this tour, so don’t be too late to get a ticket to a date near you!
